Description ADULT Has olive-green back, wings, and tail. Head has blue-gray crown, whitish supercilium, and dark eyestripe and malar stripe. Face, throat, and underparts are otherwise very pale buffy whitish, washed pale yellow on flanks. Eye has an orange-red iris. JUVENILE Similar to adult, but has paler and duller plumage, and duller iris.

Dimensions Length: 5 1/2" (14 cm)

Habitat Widespread in Caribbean and a local summer visitor (mainly Apr-Aug) to mangrove swamps in Florida. Winters in South America.

Observation Tips Fairly easy to find in suitable habitats within its extremely limited range.

Voice Song is a series of sharply whistled phrases such as tswee-tsher'ep, with pauses between; calls include a thin tse'ew.

Discussion Florida specialty that is superficially similar to Red-eyed Vireo, but separable on account of its narrow black malar stripe; note, however, that this feature is easy to miss if views are brief. Bill is stout. Forages for insects in dense foliage and easy to overlook. Sexes are similar.
