Description ADULT Has mostly dark gray upperparts, but note the black "mask" through eye, black flight feathers, and pale edges to wing coverts. Throat and underparts are whitish, washed gray on breast and flanks. Bill and legs are dark. JUVENILE Similar, but many upperpart feathers have brownish edges.

Dimensions Length: 9" (23 cm)

Habitat A mainly Caribbean species that is a local summer visitor (mainly May-Sep) to mangroves and coastal forests in Florida. Winters further south in Caribbean.

Observation Tips Easy to see in coastal Florida.

Range Southeast, Florida, Mid-Atlantic

Voice Utters a squeaking trill (can be imitated with bird squeaker).

Discussion Recalls Eastern Kingbird, but larger and longer-tailed, with grayer upperparts and a much stouter, longer bill. Flycatches from exposed perches. Sexes are similar.
