Family: Charadriidae, Plovers view all from this family
Description Adult has sandy brown upperparts and white underparts with a continuous black breast band and collar; has black and white markings on face, and white throat and nape. Dark-tipped orange bill is marginally longer than in Semipalmated; head has a pale supercilium (missing in adult Semipalmated) and its soft tuu-eep call is subtly different. Juveniles of two species are hard to separate.

Discussion A mainly Eurasian wader, very similar to Semipalmated Plover. Breeds in Greenland and high Arctic Canada; rare vagrant to northeastern coasts.
