Family: Asteraceae, Aster view all from this family

Description Native perennial herb, subshrub, or shrub.
Habit: glandular, hairy, clump-forming; many leafy stems rise from somewhat woody at base;
Height: 4-24 in (10-60 cm).
Leaf: usually alternate, oblong, stalkless, 3/8-1.5 in (1-4 cm) long, to 1 in (25 mm) wide.
Flower: long, narrow, plug-shaped flowerhead, terminal, white or cream (rarely red or purple), to 1 in (25 mm) long; flowering May to September.
Fruit: dry seed, to 1/4 (6 mm) long.

Habitat Dry rocky areas, from Blackbrush communities to pinyon-juniper woods.

Range Native to the Rocky Mountains, east to Montana, Colorado, and New Mexico.
