Description Small. Yellow/orange with 24-28 brown crossbands to tail. White underside. scales in rows of 13. Divided anal plate.
Dimensions 17.8-25.4cm. (7-10")
Breeding Small clutch of eggs.
Habitat Desert with creosote bushes.
Range Arizona to Baja California and Sonora, Mexico.
Discussion Mostly nocturnal. Appears at night to hunt for insects, cockroaches and centipedes. Spadelike snout helps it 'swim' through sand. Grooves at the edges of bushes indicate its subsurface activity.
