Description Dorsal scales are strongly keeled and pointed on its body and tail. It has a wide purple mid-dorsal stripe. The males of the species have yellow-green and blue centered scales on body; juveniles and females have distinct yellow-tan transverse bands on their body and tail.
Dimensions 19-26.9cm. (7 1/2-10 5/8")
Breeding Breeds in April. One clutch per year laid in May/July. 11 eggs in a clutch. Hatch July-September.
Habitat Boulders in granite cliffs among vegetation.
Range California to Baja peninsular.
Discussion Diurnal. Very wary, difficult to approach. Suns itself late afternoon. Hides in rocky crevices. Juveniles active till later in the day.
