Description Gray, yellowish, or reddish-brown, and there are two rows of large dark spots on the back. When threatened or aggressive, their colors become more intense. Spots have ill defined borders.
Dimensions 9.3-15.9cm. (3 3/4-6 1/4")
Breeding Live young born July-August. 6-31 per litter.
Habitat Rocky and sandy plains, also forested areas.
Range Montana to Canada. Also Dakotas, Kansas, Texas, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona to New Mexico.
Discussion Diurnal. Active midday. Diet includes insects, snails, bugs and small snakes and lizards.
