Description This is one of the smallest pocket mice, and among the smallest rodents in North America. Looks essentially identical to Merriam’s Pocket Mouse. Yellowish or reddish brown on back and sides, and white on the belly, with buffy patches behind each ear.

Discussion With a diet of mostly dry seeds, they minimize water loss by foraging only on cooler, more humid nights. Occupies grassy and shrubby habitats in western and southern plains and southwestern intermontane areas.
