Family: Geomyidae, Pocket Gophers view all from this family

Description Coat of short fur with brown to black coloration over the upper body and lighter brown or tan fur on the underparts. Whitish hairs cover the tops of the feet while the short, tapered tail is nearly naked. Sparsely haired tail is about one third of body length.

Dimensions 225-325mm, 60-121mm, 120-250g

Habitat Grasslands & prairies, Meadows & fields

Range Plains, Great Lakes, Rocky Mountains, Southwest, Texas

Discussion Inhabits deep sandy or loamy soils in most Great Plains habitats, as well as roadsides, lawns, and pastures.
