Track Hindprint 5/8" (16 mm) long, with 5 toes printing; foreprint 1/2" (13 mm) long, with 4 toes printing; hindprints ahead of foreprints, with distance between individual walking prints 1/2 – 7/8" (13–22 mm); straddle approximately 1 1/2" (37 mm). Print patterns vary greatly, but most often show as alternating series of tracks very close together. Jumping distances between tracks range from 1 3/4 to 4 1/4" (45–110 mm).
Sign Except in areas of dense grass cover, does not maintain runways like other voles, in areas with sparse vegetation this species leaves little evidence of its presence.
