Description Semi-aquatic. Carapace domed, slightly flattened along the midline, and is oblong when viewed from above, speckled with numerous yellow or light-colored flecks or streaks. Plastron, or lower shell, is yellow with dark blotches symmetrically arranged. The head and legs are dark, and usually speckled or mottled with yellow.

Dimensions 12.7-26.8cm. (5-10 1/2")

Breeding Sexually mature at 14-20 years. April- May, nesting begins early June. 8 eggs in a clutch. Hatch August-September.

Habitat Isolated coves and weedy bays, and further inland in shallow, marshy waters and ponds.

Range Nebraska, Great Lakes region. Also New Hampshire, Massachusets, New York.

Discussion Diet includes insects and snails. Very shy, will hide if disturbed. Mostly aquatic but surfaces bask on logs and to feed.
