Buckthorn

Our property is overrun with Buckthorn, competing with natives such as american hazelnut, cerries, pagoda doogwood, maple leaf viburnum, trillium, Jack in the Pulpit, many varieties of ferns etc.. I would like to eliminate the invasive Buckthorn as much as possible. Can you recommend methods of removal?

I think the thing to do with buckthorn is cut it back as far as you can and then paint an herbicide on to the stems. This should do the trick. I wish you luck. I live in Foxboro and I see buckthorn everywhere here, too.
