Your question implies that snakes and "gators" are inherently dangerous, which isn't true. If people are aware of their surroundings and behave responsibly, the risks of being harmed by wildlife are pretty low. If people are outside more, their chances of encountering wildlife increase. Snakes often hide under debris, so I guess that further increases the likelihood that people cleaning up after a hurricane will encounter them. Most of them are completely harmless to humans.
