Identifying a bird

We live in southwest Georgia (Hamilton) and saw a bird at our feeder that we have never seen before. It had a short, stubby bill, a red breast, black head, black and white wings and a white belly.

Birding Expert - George H. Harrison

Your mystery bird was a male rose-breasted grosbeak, a common feeder bird throughout the East at this time of the year. They love sunflower seeds of any kind, and may spend the summer in your area nesting. Females are heavily striped in brown and white.
